Here we go deeper into the concept of hygge, but first we have to take a look at the background. Hygge was originally a Norwegian word which was adapted by the Danes. In Sweden the word FIKA is often used of the same concept, but this also means a short coffee break It is hard to translate hygge to the English language, maybe because the concept have not existed outside Scandinavia until a few years ago. So why is hygge a Scandinavian concept? It is much based on Scandinavian values, like fair treatment of people, equality as a basic value, how to be and how you are as a human being. It is also funded in our leadership style; respect for everyone else, to be nice to everyone and having time for others - you listen more than you talk. It starts from early on, the Scandinavian concept of parental leave, makes it possible that at least one of the parents spend almost the whole first year together with their child. This may ignite the feeling of happiness, it generates proximity and later makes us forget the world outside for a while. Again - the concept of beeing safe. Later we see that children like to spend time with their parents - they want to spend time with their parents - and for many this last the whole life. Hygge relates to happiness and to increase quality of life - and stay away from winter depressions.
